About the course

The foot and ankle reward precision. Symptoms stay local and structures sit close to the surface, so where it hurts tells you most of what you need to know , if you know how to read it. But too often that signal gets ignored. Plantar heel pain gets a blanket "plantar fasciitis" label when it might be a calcaneal stress fracture or a nerve. Achilles patients get told to rest when they need to load. A first ankle sprain gets a few days of RICE and quietly becomes chronic instability. And the conditions that don't belong to you at all — DVT, gout, compartment syndrome — get missed because nobody was screening for them. This course fixes that. You'll work through the high-volume conditions you see every week,  plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, lateral ankle sprains, great toe and forefoot pain, and the ones that are easy to miss, like sinus tarsi syndrome, posterior tibialis tendon dysfunction, stress fractures, and the medical conditions that need a referral, not a treatment plan. You'll sharpen your differential, learn to load and offload each diagnosis appropriately, and know exactly when to refer. The back half ties it together with practical content on running mechanics, cadence, footwear, and the subjective communication skills that decide whether a patient actually gets better.

Meet Your Instructor: Dr. Alex Feitz, DPT

I completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy at Idaho State University, followed by an orthopedic residency through A.T. Still University, and I'm currently pursuing an orthopedic fellowship through Regis University. My clinical focus is on treating extremity conditions, with additional training in dry needling, thrust manipulation, diagnostic ultrasound, and EMG. Outside the clinic I'm a trail runner and CrossFitter, and I spend most of my free time with my wife and three boys, usually coaching their soccer team. The foot and ankle are where I see clinicians lose confidence fastest, not because the conditions are rare, but because the differential gets skipped and everything gets treated like a generic sprain or "plantar fasciitis." As a runner myself, I also know how much these patients want to keep moving. This course is built around the conditions actually walking into your clinic. My goal is to help you evaluate them more precisely, load them more effectively, and know when something belongs to someone else.
